Went to see Paranormal Activity 3 last night.

HOLY SHIT.

First of all, let me say this. I'm a hard person to scare when it comes to horror movies. I've seen enough of them to know that they're all scripted, and I know just about every horror movie cliché in the book. (Yet I'm a sucker for a new show like "American Horror Story," despite it being filled with clichés; it's wonderfully messed up.) And I thought the first two Paranormal Activity movies were kind of predictable, but they were still good to watch. I didn't think they were really all that scary, though. But HOLY SHIT, THE THIRD ONE. I think I spent a good chunk of the second part with my eyes covered.

It's not that it was gory or anything like that. Here's what's weird. I can handle blood and guts and gore, but I can't handle seeing people break bones. I can't even handle hearing bones being broken. I don't even like looking at x-rays. But the filmmakers got a little more out there with the special effects in this one, and the spirit starts messing with the younger girls. And Kevin and I automatically identified some deleted scenes that were in the trailer that didn't get included in the final film. (I'm wondering if there are some alternate endings, too. There were a few alternate endings from the first one, and one of them was directly tied to the second one.) And there were a couple of things I was left wondering from the second one that didn't really get answered in this one.)

My verdict? I don't know if you should see this if you haven't seen the first two. You get a brief recapping of what happened in the second one before this starts, but you won't know why this movie was important or why the recap from the last one was important unless you've seen the previous two.

I still haven't seen the 1st one. You think "American Horror Story" is cliche'd? I've only watched the first ep so far. But, I thought it was so original.

Story-wise, it's been pretty original, but lots of clichés: sullen teenage daughter (and whacked out BF) that the parents don't understand, "see no evil, hear no evil" in the basement, phones in the house being swiped before an attack (it's in the second ep), the mother is an insecure weak mess, killing someone and somehow they're still alive (I won't give away any spoilers, but...), the dad keeps seeing the maid as a hot piece of ass but "no one else believes him", the crazy disfigured guy who keeps warning the dad about what will happen if he stays, he's already been shitty to his wife once and can't redeem himself, the "Mommie Dearest" crap going on with the neighbor and her special needs daughter...

But clichés aside, it's been pretty good at being a total mind-fuck. (The crap with the maid....this week had me going "WHAAAAT?!" I won't give anything away, but yeah.)

I was expecting a sullen, teenage daughter. But, I see those in EVERYTHING. Not just haunted house movies. The old yet young & hot maid, special needs child, the Columbine boyfriend. I never see those in that genre either. Maybe I haven't seen enough recent haunted house movies. All of these surprised me. Also, Jessica Lange and her daughter repeatedly showing up/wandering the house like they own the fucking place. Also, new to me. The weak, insecure wife? I'll give you that one.

And yes, it fucks with your mind. And, that's just the way I like it :D

Do you ever watch "True "Blood"? The actor who plays the burned/disfigured guy was the shit on there! Baddest Gay Vampire Ever!
