1.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was the first full-length animated film made, and Snow White was the first Disney princess. This movie was made in the 1930s, an era before women's lib and ladies were expected to wait on their men and be happy little housewives. Yeah, Snow White offers the dwarfs her homekeeping expertise in exchange for letting her squat in their abode away from her evil stepmother. Feminism? Puh-lease.

2.
On the flipside, here we have Disney animation's 50th full-length animated film, Tangled. This here is a scene from the "Mother Knows Best" sequence. Rapunzel just wants out of the tower to go see those mysterious floating lights. And her damn mother's doing all she can to scare her enough to not want to leave the tower. Mother Gothel's kind of a bitch like that.

3.
LAWL, it's a Baby-Sitters' Club-centric one. This is a quote from the book where Stacey developed a crush on her substitute math teacher (Wes). Because Stacey McGill is a boy-crazy diabetic math enthusiast. Oh, and she babysits, too. And she's from New York City.

4.
OH GOD, THIS ONE. This is from the more adult-oriented "Ren and Stimpy" episodes that John K. was asked to do for Spike TV. There's an episode where Ren and Stimpy go to the beach, and all pervy Ren does is ogle the hot chicks. I use this icon over at posts at ONTD involving overly sexy types; it's been getting a lot of use in Courtney Stodden posts lately. But OH MY GOD, the animation done on how boobs move when a woman runs is very well done here. It's like "Baywatch" or something!
hollybrooke: (it LOOKS like Jem....)
(Questions asked by [livejournal.com profile] cosmosmariner):

1) Why Jem? :P
Why not? :P I was a big fan of the dolls and cartoon when I was a kid, and that fandom got reborn when I started participating in a "Jem" RPG on Yahoo Groups. And just like all fun things from the 80s, it's fun today, but when you re-watch that show as an adult, you tend to have a different (more mature) take on it than you did as a kid.

2) How did you get into RHPS?
I always say I wouldn't have gotten into Rocky Horror if I weren't a MST3K fan. When I was in my first semester of college (many many moons ago), one of my friends asked if I had ever been to see Rocky Horror before. I told her I had heard of it, but had never seen it. She said if I liked watching MST3K, I'd probably get into a midnight showing of Rocky Horror because all you do is make fun of the movie (like on MST3K), and there was a cast "acting out" the movie as it was going. So I went with her and a couple of other friends and had lots of fun.

Then maybe about a year later, when I was still active on instant messaging on Yahoo and AOL, that when I met (the now dreaded) Zero Phoenix online. And we started talking pretty regularly online and became friends, and SOMEhow he remembered me from that one night I went to Rocky Horror, so he started really talking me into coming back to seeing another show. At that time, he wasn't in cast, but he was friends with pretty much everyone in cast, so I got to know those people and made friends with them, and after going to see the show on a semi-regular basis for a couple of years, I made the decision to join cast. I kind of wanted to be Magenta, but Ol' Man Shawn Stutler and Crazy Ryan Markle and Ed "This is my jam!" Lipinksi (aka [livejournal.com profile] supermachodude) told me that they were REALLY looking for a new Janet. And that's how it alllll began.

3) If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live, and why?
Southern California, maybe around Los Angeles. Yes, I know cost of living is ridiculously high. Yes, I know that area is a hot ground for earthquakes and mudslides. But the true fact of the matter is that it's nice and sunny, and there's a dry heat in the summertime (unlike the humid summers we get here in Chicagoland). It's near a major metropolitan area where there's always something going on and I could never get bored. And it's a far way away from here in Indiana, and it would piss my parents off. :D

4) What is your favorite guilty pleasure movie?
Oh I have quite a few, but I'll probably have to go with She-Devil. It's so late 80s and cheese-tastic, and Meryl Streep really doesn't do enough comedy.

5) What is the one song that speaks to you in a really personal way - that it feels like the band wrote just for you?
"I Hope You Dance" by LeeAnn Womack

When I'm done with this, then I'll tackle the music one. I hate to get all Disney'd out before Tangled is in theaters.

Day #19: Your least favorite Pixar film

Cars. I'm sorry, I just had a hard time getting into it. The backgrounds were beautiful, but....okay, I can see how a little kid could get into talking cars with personalities, but as an adult, I had a hard time suspending my disbelief.

Day #20: Favorite sequel

I generally avoid the straight-to-video sequels, but The Return of Jafar was pretty awesome. And like I said, out of all the Toy Story movies, the second one was my favorite.

Day #21: An overrated movie

Cars. Like I said, I just had a hard time buying it, and I thought it was overly hyped up. But from what I've heard, Cars generated (and still does generate) lots of money from merchandising for Disney/Pixar. Which is why I think is why that particular movie is getting the sequel treatment and an entire land devoted to it at Disney California Adventure. (That, and John Lasseter is a car-nut IRL. That movie held a lot of sentimental value for him to make, apparently.)

Day #22: An underrated movie

The Rescuers.

Wow, Glen Keane worked on this one, too?! He's been with Disney longer than I thought!

And I've read the books. The movie is nothing like the books, but I think the movie is more endearing than the books. And Penny is so sweet yet so pitiful, you feel so bad for her and just want to give her a hug. (So much love for Eva Gabor!)

R-E-S-C-U-E, Rescue Aid Society, heads held high, touch the sky, our hearts we pledge to thee... )
hollybrooke: (DUG!)
Day #10: Your favorite song:

The harmonizing is just BEAUTIFUL. It's not even a complicated song, only two lyrics, and just sounds absolutely lovely.

I was obsessed with Aladdin when I was in seventh grade, not even lying.

Day #11: Your favorite love song

Day #12: Your favorite villain song

You don't even need the villain to sing her own damn theme song. BTW, I really didn't care for the live-action version of 101 Dalmations. Nice job, but there was really no need for it.

Day #13: Your least favorite song

Just....meh. Forgettable. Robin Hood generally isn't my favorite Disney movie. A lot of repurposed animation from previous movies, and I felt they could have done much better on this one. But then again, Robin Hood was one of the ones they made shortly after Walt passed away where the animation team seemed to lose purpose.

The world was such a wholesome place until/Cruella, Cruella De Vil )
hollybrooke: (Mickey Mouse)
(BTW, it's the 30-Day Disney meme, bitches!)

Day #4: Your favorite prince: The Beast, duh. :) Oh wait, "Prince Adam," if we're going by the unofficial name. I mean, seriously. How do you get that far into production and realize that you haven't given one of your lead characters an actual HUMAN name? Oh well. I guess it meant for more of a surprised reaction on Belle's end when he transformed in the end. And STFU all you haters who were all, "Ew, he's kind of not that good-looking as a human." IT DOESN'T MATTER. Point of the movie was that you don't judge a book by its cover!

Day #5: Your favorite hero: ALADDIN. Hands down. It's amazing all the close calls a simple street rat had to go through just to win his woman.

Day #6: Your favorite animal: Thumper! *squee* I've always loved Thumper from Bambi, and I always will. BUNNIES!!!!

Day #7: Your favorite sidekick/secondary character: Have I ever mentioned how much I loved Timothy Mouse from Dumbo? I think he was the best confidence booster a Disney character could have.

Day #8: Your favorite villain: Gaston. He's villainous and treacherous and good with a gun/bow and arrow. And he's damn good-looking, too. Too bad he's a conceited jerk.

Day #9: Your favorite original character (Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, etc.): DONALD!!!!!! As a kid, I always, ALWAYS loved watching the older Donald Duck short on VHS. This is one of my favorites:

Who gets stuck with all the bad luck? No one...but Donald Duck! )

I'd like to mention that I've been getting up at 4 AM--naturally, with no help from an alarm clock--for the last week, and it's driving me nuts. Goddamn my internal alarm clock. I NEED SLEEP, DAMMIT!

Day #2: Your favorite princess
Belle has been my favorite for a long time. I relate to her the most. I don't really like where I live, I don't fit in, I daydream and read a lot, I want adventure in the great wide somewhere... (Plus, she's the one I probably look the most like, as well.)

HOWEVER, this may be subject to change once Tangled comes out. From what I've read of the junior novelization, I may end up LOVING Rapunzel. Something has to be said for a girl who wants to experience the world outside of her tower, paints nearly every square inch of her home, and has mother issues. I mean, really. Do all parents have a problem with girls getting their hair cut? I know my mom does. I think she would rather me have long hair like Brooke Shields did in The Blue Lagoon, but oh well.

Day #3: Your favorite heroine
That's NOT a princess? Hmm...can we have one that's NOT in an animated film? If so, I'd like to go with Mary Poppins. She's practically perfect in every way, didn't you know? :)

Cheeky! )

(I was going to do the music meme, but I think this is going to be more fun. Thanks a lot, [livejournal.com profile] diapergenie! The music one will probably be a lot of the same stuff over and over for me.)

Day #1: Your favorite character
Wow, this is a hard one for me, and on the first day! I'm very tempted to say Belle from Beauty and the Beast, but I'm going with the Beast instead. He had the most inner conflict and went through the most change in the movie, and his blow-ups were pretty funny. Especially the scene where he was demanding Belle to come down to dinner.

And I figured I'd share this. It was done by Luna-Kitsune-Blu on DeviantArt. I love it, all the Beast's best moments in the film if he looked like his human form:

I love the "facepalm" one after Belle flees the castle.
