hollybrooke: (Cindy and Yogi)

It's a shame. Christina has the talent, and her voice is best suited for this kind of music, and she really does NOT get the credit she deserves for it. I wish she'd just ditch the regular pop music scene and go back to doing more bluesy, jazzy stuff like what she was doing with Back To Basics, because that album was PERFECTION.

You know, after seeing Tangled, I may just go see Burlesque on top of it. It's got CHER in it. CHER!!!!!

Here's your daily Tangled countdown fix for Tuesday!

BEST viral video I've seen for this movie! But don't you think healing cut wounds with your hair is....I dunno....not very hygenic?

ONLY EIGHT MORE DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!
ONLY EIGHT MORE DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!
ONLY EIGHT MORE DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!
hollybrooke: (Default)
Here's some stuff for ya!

Mandy Moore is TALL, man. (That's from the premiere. I like Mandy's dress, but I'm not thrilled about her hair. Looks like no effort went into that at all.)

Early sketches of Rapunzel and Flynn, who looks as huge as a bear (*hee hee*), by Glen Keane.

Ever seen You Don't Mess With the Zohan? "I want to make the hair silky smoooooth!" (And wow, how creepy-looking does this look?)

First of all....how on Earth can you actually physically DO that with hair without risking it getting all kinds of split ends and breaking? And wouldn't that HURT your poor scalp?! (I have to keep telling myself that "it's MAGICAL hair.")
Second of all....wow, Mother Gothel's kind of a snippy, condescending bitch.

OMG, I'm just as excited as you are, Rapunzel! It's like this gif never ends!

ONLY NINE MORE DAYS!!!!!!!!!

On a related note, my hair is bra-strap-length at this point. It's not like I've been actively trying to grow it out; it just grows super-fast. Hell, I just got two inches trimmed a few months ago, and now it looks like four inches have grown back.
hollybrooke: (And yet ANOTHER Rapunzel icon)
Yeah, it's another Tangled countdown bonus. I couldn't pass THIS one up.

OMG, the detail on the eyes!!!

Aw crap, I can't wait till tomorrow to post this as well! ANOTHER CLIP FROM THE MOVIE!!! *bouncebouncebouncebounce*

hollybrooke: (another Rapunzel pic)
This is "Something That I Want" by Grace Potter, the ending song to the movie, in its entirety.

Like they mentioned on [livejournal.com profile] d_princesses, I'm anxious to see what Disney will do for the ending credits, if it'll be illustrated like they did with Enchanted and The Princess and the Frog.

This is not a song that Rapunzel sings in the film, and this is not a pop version of anything that is sung in the film (like they did with "Beauty and the Beast" and "A Whole New World"). And I've heard complaints that what we've heard of the soundtrack doesn't sound like "classic Disney" at all. Well....not to get pissy or anything, but in the songwriters' defense, this is not a classic. Yet. And you can't recreate the magic that Howard Ashman and Alan Menkin had with The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. I think it's cool that this is the direction the animated movies are starting to take, because let's be honest, they were starting to get kind of formulaic song-wise after Aladdin. I like that the ending song is upbeat and pop-ish, and not a romantic, mainstream version of "I See the Light."

The point I'm trying to make is, quit contrasting and comparing. This is a new direction that Disney animation and songwriting is going. If you expect it to be like Beauty and the Beast or The Little Mermaid or Sleeping Beauty, then go pop that in your DVD player.

OMFGZ, ONLY TWO WEEKS LEFT!!!!!
hollybrooke: (Oops Britney did it again)
Here's a nice break from all the Disney/Tangled stuff.

hollybrooke: (Rapunzel and Pascale)

Love his big googly eyes. I hear Mother Gothel doesn't exactly approve of indoor pets, so I predict LOTS of hide-and-seek from Pascal in this movie.

SIXTEEN DAYS! That's, like, two weeks and two days!
hollybrooke: (Frying Pan)
Time for your daily Tangled countdown fix, from Disneyland park!

EIGHTEEN DAYS LEFT!!
hollybrooke: (Cinderella Castle)
When I'm done with this, then I'll tackle the music one. I hate to get all Disney'd out before Tangled is in theaters.

Day #19: Your least favorite Pixar film

Cars. I'm sorry, I just had a hard time getting into it. The backgrounds were beautiful, but....okay, I can see how a little kid could get into talking cars with personalities, but as an adult, I had a hard time suspending my disbelief.

Day #20: Favorite sequel

I generally avoid the straight-to-video sequels, but The Return of Jafar was pretty awesome. And like I said, out of all the Toy Story movies, the second one was my favorite.

Day #21: An overrated movie

Cars. Like I said, I just had a hard time buying it, and I thought it was overly hyped up. But from what I've heard, Cars generated (and still does generate) lots of money from merchandising for Disney/Pixar. Which is why I think is why that particular movie is getting the sequel treatment and an entire land devoted to it at Disney California Adventure. (That, and John Lasseter is a car-nut IRL. That movie held a lot of sentimental value for him to make, apparently.)

Day #22: An underrated movie

The Rescuers.

Wow, Glen Keane worked on this one, too?! He's been with Disney longer than I thought!

And I've read the books. The movie is nothing like the books, but I think the movie is more endearing than the books. And Penny is so sweet yet so pitiful, you feel so bad for her and just want to give her a hug. (So much love for Eva Gabor!)

R-E-S-C-U-E, Rescue Aid Society, heads held high, touch the sky, our hearts we pledge to thee... )
hollybrooke: (And yet ANOTHER Rapunzel icon)
Your daily Tangled countdown fix! This was good for a chuckle.

Wow, Rapunzel, you don't think you've brushed your hair enough? *giggle*

So cute. I already love her.

NINETEEN DAYS LEFT!!!
hollybrooke: (Too much hair!)
And for today's daily Tangled countdown fix. He makes all the panties drop. He's Flynn Rider, ladies.

Yum. If it's wrong to lust after an animated character, then I don't wanna be right. :P
hollybrooke: (New Disney Opening)
Day #14: Your favorite kiss

There's nothing overly romantic about how Prince Charming kisses Snow White, but it's a very respectful kiss.

Day #15: The first movie you saw

I really had to think hard about this one, and I'm pretty sure the first Disney movie I remember seeing was Sleeping Beauty. We rented the tape from the local video store, and my mom set up our VCR to our uncle's and made a copy of it so we didn't have to keep renting it out all the time. (Keep in mind, this was the mid 80s, right when home video was starting to take off. We were pretty lucky to have even HAD a VCR.)

Day #16: Your favorite classic

OOOOH, that's a hard one. I love all of the classics. I'm really going to have to go with Snow White again on this one, but Sleeping Beauty is just so strikingly beautiful. Then again, I have a soft spot in my heart for Pinocchio as well.

Day #17: Your least favorite classic

I'll have to go with probably The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, if only for the Mr. Toad section. Only because I've read The Wind in the Willows, and there was SO much they left out of the book. Walt and the Nine Old Men could have really done something special with The Wind in the Willows if their budget had allowed for it.

Day #18: Your favorite Pixar film

Seriously? LOVED THIS. Had to see it a few times in the theater. The level of storytelling that Pixar was able to accomplish with WALL-E with very minimal spoken dialogue was amazing. I was sorely disappointed this movie didn't win the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay that year. I also love the level of detail Pixar put into this (especially in ALL THAT TRASH in the beginning!), and it's very interesting to think that a programmable unit like WALL-E would be able to develop a personality on its own over the course of 700 years. (Because the concept of artificial intelligence freaks me out.)

Up! and Toy Story 2 are a very close second, though. Yes, I said Toy Story 2. The third one was excellent, but the second one is my favorite of the trilogy.

Out there, full of shine and full of sparkle, close you eyes and see it glisten, Barnaby....listen, Barnaby.... )
hollybrooke: (another Rapunzel pic)
Your daily Tangled countdown fix!

I'm not going to lie. I'm dying to see what kind of villain Mother Gothel will turn out to be. (DON'T CLICK IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED! THERE'S A MILD SPOILER IN THERE ABOUT HER FATE!)

Only 23 days left! *squee!*
hollybrooke: (Default)
27, to be exact!

If anyone can make me an animated gif of Rapunzel zooming down the stairs like that, I'll love you long time. :D
hollybrooke: (Peter Griffin Sideboob Hour)
Note to self: must remember to link to Ami's blog ( http://ammazoli.blogspot.com/ ).

Tonight's my late shift at work tonight. Not really looking forward to it, but at least I get the majority of the day off so I can work on Kevin's Halloween costume. (Ooh yeah.)

*semi-related tangent* Tomorrow is our dress-up for Halloween day at work. I don't know if I'm going to dress up for work or not. I would wear my part of our Halloween get-up, but no one at work will get it if they don't see Kevin's part of the costume. If I dress up, I may just drag out my Dorothy outfit from last year (even though there's no way I'll be able to wear those five-inch heeled "ruby slippers" from last year; I could barely make it through the Rocky Horror Halloween show last year in them). Or my Princess Leia outfit from way back in high school. Or just NOT dress up.

*tangent* I had my dentist appointment yesterday. "Look, Ma! No cavities!" I'm lucky I have good teeth.

*tangent* Well, I've been using the Murad acne complex system for about three weeks, going on a month now, and do you want me to be completely honest? I haven't seen much of an improvement in my skin at all. You know, is it too much to ask for me to have clear, manageable skin? I hate looking like such a monster all the time. FML
hollybrooke: (DUG!)
Day #10: Your favorite song:

The harmonizing is just BEAUTIFUL. It's not even a complicated song, only two lyrics, and just sounds absolutely lovely.

I was obsessed with Aladdin when I was in seventh grade, not even lying.

Day #11: Your favorite love song

Day #12: Your favorite villain song

You don't even need the villain to sing her own damn theme song. BTW, I really didn't care for the live-action version of 101 Dalmations. Nice job, but there was really no need for it.

Day #13: Your least favorite song

Just....meh. Forgettable. Robin Hood generally isn't my favorite Disney movie. A lot of repurposed animation from previous movies, and I felt they could have done much better on this one. But then again, Robin Hood was one of the ones they made shortly after Walt passed away where the animation team seemed to lose purpose.

The world was such a wholesome place until/Cruella, Cruella De Vil )
hollybrooke: (Mickey Mouse)
(BTW, it's the 30-Day Disney meme, bitches!)

Day #4: Your favorite prince: The Beast, duh. :) Oh wait, "Prince Adam," if we're going by the unofficial name. I mean, seriously. How do you get that far into production and realize that you haven't given one of your lead characters an actual HUMAN name? Oh well. I guess it meant for more of a surprised reaction on Belle's end when he transformed in the end. And STFU all you haters who were all, "Ew, he's kind of not that good-looking as a human." IT DOESN'T MATTER. Point of the movie was that you don't judge a book by its cover!

Day #5: Your favorite hero: ALADDIN. Hands down. It's amazing all the close calls a simple street rat had to go through just to win his woman.

Day #6: Your favorite animal: Thumper! *squee* I've always loved Thumper from Bambi, and I always will. BUNNIES!!!!

Day #7: Your favorite sidekick/secondary character: Have I ever mentioned how much I loved Timothy Mouse from Dumbo? I think he was the best confidence booster a Disney character could have.

Day #8: Your favorite villain: Gaston. He's villainous and treacherous and good with a gun/bow and arrow. And he's damn good-looking, too. Too bad he's a conceited jerk.

Day #9: Your favorite original character (Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, etc.): DONALD!!!!!! As a kid, I always, ALWAYS loved watching the older Donald Duck short on VHS. This is one of my favorites:

Who gets stuck with all the bad luck? No one...but Donald Duck! )

I'd like to mention that I've been getting up at 4 AM--naturally, with no help from an alarm clock--for the last week, and it's driving me nuts. Goddamn my internal alarm clock. I NEED SLEEP, DAMMIT!
hollybrooke: (Alice/Hatter love)

Day #2: Your favorite princess
Belle has been my favorite for a long time. I relate to her the most. I don't really like where I live, I don't fit in, I daydream and read a lot, I want adventure in the great wide somewhere... (Plus, she's the one I probably look the most like, as well.)

HOWEVER, this may be subject to change once Tangled comes out. From what I've read of the junior novelization, I may end up LOVING Rapunzel. Something has to be said for a girl who wants to experience the world outside of her tower, paints nearly every square inch of her home, and has mother issues. I mean, really. Do all parents have a problem with girls getting their hair cut? I know my mom does. I think she would rather me have long hair like Brooke Shields did in The Blue Lagoon, but oh well.

Day #3: Your favorite heroine
That's NOT a princess? Hmm...can we have one that's NOT in an animated film? If so, I'd like to go with Mary Poppins. She's practically perfect in every way, didn't you know? :)

Cheeky! )
hollybrooke: (another Rapunzel pic)
Since [livejournal.com profile] cosmosmariner is doing it. (And happy belated birthday, BTW.)

Day One: Your Favorite Song

I'm not big on country music, especially a lot of the modern country stuff (I'm more of a classic country fan). But I have loved "I Hope You Dance" by LeeAnn Womack ever since I've heard it. It's the one song that I know kind of reaffirms things for me when nothing's going right.

hollybrooke: (Slutty Sandy)
Day 01- The best movie you saw during the last year -- Toy Story 3, hands down. It was the only movie I was really looking forward to seeing this summer. We'll see what comes out later on this year, but still not over the TS3 love.

Day 02 - The most underrated movie -- Grindhouse. (ESPECIALLY Planet Terror.) It was MEANT to be campy and gruesome. And people just didn't want to sit through a double feature. And Death Proof was pretty cool once you got past all the exposition that you normally get in a Tarantino film.

Day 03 - A movie that makes you really happy -- Enchanted. That movie was so freaking adorable. (I especially loved when Giselle was offered the apple martini and Robert said something along the lines of, "Wow, everyone likes to give you free stuff, huh?")

Day 04 - A movie that makes you sad -- Beaches. I think everyone knows why. I don't know anyone who doesn't cry buckets at the end of that movie. That, and Steel Magnolias.

Day 05 - Favorite love story in a movie -- It's going to sound so cliché, but Allie and Noah in The Notebook. To think that a love like that could survive after Allie's mother would object to her being with Noah and him writing her every day for a year and thinking she just gave up on him because she never responded....it's the stuff that makes for a really good movie. Good book, BETTER movie.

Day 06 - Favorite made for TV movie -- A while back...it wasn't VERY long back, though...ABC had aired this movie about Anne Frank with Ben Kingsley in it playing Otto Frank. It was a two-parter, and the entire last hour was shown commercial-free and with a mature content warning because it went into detail about how Anne and her family suffered in the concentration camps after they were caught. It wasn't the same thing as the movie with Millie Perkins, which was just the stage version as a movie. They put a lot of research into what was going on not just with Anne and her family and the Van Pels' and Mr. Pfeffer, but what Miep and her co-workers were having to deal with just trying to keep them hidden. I was VERY lucky that I found it on DVD; I paid a pretty penny for it, and I can't bring myself to sell it.

Day 07 - The most surprising plot twist or ending - Regina George posting her picture in the Burn Book and getting even with Cady in Mean Girls. It was a very underhanded thing to do, and I totally didn't see it coming when I first saw it, but it made sense.

...I always felt kind of bad for Regina George towards the end of Mean Girls. Yeah, she was an intimidating bitch, but did she really deserve what happened to her? I believe in karma, but wow. The girls that she thought were her friends (ESPECIALLY Cady) kind of stabbed her in the back, and she ended up getting severely injured in the end. NO one deserves that, I don't care HOW mean you are. And to think that Janis Ian was the one who masterminded all of that in the first place....who's truly the mean girl in all of that?

Day 08 - A movie that you’ve seen countless times - Obviously, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. (Go check out http://www.helpmemommy.com )

Day 09 - A movie with the best soundtrack - Detroit Rock City. Lots of awesome rock music from the 70s, mainly KISS.

Day 10 - Favorite classic movie - Probably Gone With the Wind. And I had never been able to sit down and watch the whole movie in one sitting until recently! (I would always watch the first hour and then have to do something, or I would come in when it was half over.) I still love it so freaking much. Especially when Rhett forces Scarlett to go to the birthday party and makes her wear that red dress, and he tells her something along the lines of, "Here, wear this, it'll suit the occasion" all snarky-like. Rhett was freaking awesome.

Day 11 - A movie that changed your opinion about something - Dogma. Here's the thing. I'm not a particularly religious person. I was raised Baptist as a kid, and I stopped going to church regularly after my church got a new clegyman because we (meaning my whole family) didn't agree with some of the things the new clergyman was preaching about in his sermons. It's not like I've turned my back on religion or Christianity or anything...it's just that I don't particularly agree with the idea of organized religion.

There's a part in Dogma when Bethany is talking with Rufus on the train about how Jesus doesn't like how we've taken something like Christianity and separated it into so many factions. And because of that, it causes so many scuffles and skirmishes between different religious groups. Hell, people go to wars over this kind of stuff. I can't remember the exact quote, but Rufus said something along the lines of "It's easier to have a good idea instead of a belief. You can change an idea, but changing a belief is trickier." And it just made me feel a little more secure in not wanting to go to church every week. I consider myself to be an independent worshipper. I mean, I know how to read, and I'm smart enough to read the Bible and interpret it for myself. I don't need to go to church every week and have some clergyman preach to me about how I'm going to hell and make me feel bad about myself.

Day 12 - A movie that you hate - The remake of The Stepford Wives. Hated it. HAAAAAAAAAAAAATED it. The original is tons of amazing, but the remake was just terrible. And it made no sense towards the end!

Day 13 - A movie that is a guilty pleasure - Hmm....I had to think long and hard about this one. There are quite a few movies that I'm kind of ashamed to admit that I love. But nothing tops the ridiculousness of.....She-Devil.

The Queen Actress Herself, Meryl Streep, in a movie with Roseanne Barr and Ed Begley Jr. of all people. The late-80s fashion sense. Mary Fisher's downward spiral, Robert's skeeviness, and Ruth just taking over her life as Vesta Rose. I. LOVE. THIS. RIDICULOUS. MOVIE.

(Troop Beverly Hills is a close second.)

Day 14 - A movie that no one would expect you to love - Probably Cannibal! The Musical. So many people see it in my DVD collection and ask about it, and I'm the one who has to explain it was the first movie that Trey Parker and Matt Stone made while in college before "South Park" took off as well as it did. It's such a craptacular movie, but it's hilarious. It's for the true Trey Parker/Matt Stone fan.

God, look at how young and skinny Trey was there!

Day 15 - A character who you can relate to the most -

I feel this could be best expressed by song:

Day 16 - A movie that you used to love but now hate - Okay, I know I've posted it before, so everyone knows about my love/hate relationship with Grease. But let me restate it. I loved Grease when I was a teenager, but over the course of time, I've seen it so many times, I've seen so many stage productions of it, I've done the songs for show choir and I've heard so many craptacular karaoke versions of "We Go Together" and "Summer Nights" that I can't stand it anymore.

Not only that, but I don't like the fact that by the end of the movie, Sandy figures out the only way to get Danny back is to make herself over into a skank, and it's okay with everyone. Yet Danny lettered in track and got his letterman's sweater and the T-Birds just made fun of him (briefly) for it until he told them, "You guys aren't going to be following me for the rest of your lives, right?" It's lame when Danny does something (sort of) productive with his downtime during high school, but Sandy gets the slutty makeover and everyone loves it because she's sexy all of a sudden. Yeah.

Day 17 - A movie that disappointed you the most - Superman Returns. It was just another unnecessary sequel. The only good thing about it was Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor because it's Kevin Spacey, for crying out loud. But yeah, that one was a bit letdown. Had a hard time buying Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane (I always felt they could've cast someone a little older, or someone who looked like a bit of a harried working mother), had a VERY hard time buying Superman lifting an entire island of KRYPTONITE, and the last thing....this is the movie James Marsden passed on doing X-Men 3 for?! (Or only showed up for the first five minutes, anyway.)

I hated it. I downright hated it. And I cling even more tightly to the original versions with Christopher Reeve to this day. (The original Superman was on AMC the other day, actually!)

Day 18 - A movie that you wish more people would’ve seen - Death Becomes Her. (Yeah, another Meryl Streep "crap-o-rama," LOL.) I've been kind of obsessed with it lately. I don't get why this movie didn't get enough love! It's not really a horror movie, it's more like a funny "Twilight Zone"-ish movie. Or like Tales From the Crypt, more like. Brilliant comedic performances from Bruce Willis and Goldie Hawn and (of course) Meryl Streep. And Isabella Rosellini is hot as BALLS in it. SUCH an underrated movie. And I want to make animated gifs from it so badly.

Day 19 - Favorite movie based on a book/comic/etc. -

Off a book: the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Those were some of the best damn book adaptations I had ever seen. (I can overlook the elimination of Tom Bombadil from the first book, because that section did get a bit boring.) And The Two Towers was probably the best one out of the three; I think I saw it four times in the theater.

Off a comic: I'm going with Watchmen.

Day 20 - Favorite movie from your favorite actor/actress -

Kevin Spacey--American Beauty and 21.
Reese Witherspoon--Legally Blonde and Election.
John Travolta--Pulp Fiction

Day 21 - Favorite action movie - For the longest time, I would've told you Terminator 2. But I'll be honest. The Dark Knight was just that much better. Nothing can beat the semi trailer chasing the Batpod. In IMAX. That was just fucking AWESOME.

Day 22 - Favorite documentary - Waking Sleeping Beauty. It'll be HELL waiting for that to come out on DVD.

Day 23 - Favorite animation - In my opinion, nothing can beat the one that started it all.

1:26 For as realistic as we can nail rippling water with computer-generated animation nowadays....NOTHING can top the special effects used when Snow White's singing into the well. That's just PERFECT and looks MUCH more realistic than what computers can do NOW.

Beauty and the Beast is a close second, however. A VERY close second.

Day 24 - That one awesome movie idea that still hasn’t been done yet - I don't know. Something ORIGINAL that's not a remake of something that's already been done?! (Oh, I know what's awesome. I'm just not going to post it, lest someone steal my idea.)

Day 25 - The most hilarious movie you’ve ever seen - I'm inclined to say Tropic Thunder, but I don't want to be like everyone else who's responded with this. So it's a toss-up between Dumb and Dumber. That movie never gets old and never fails to make me laugh.

Day 26 - A movie that you love but everyone else hates - Cloverfield. I freaking LOVED it. I loved the whole viral campaign leading up to it, too. I really can't wait for Super 8 to come out.

Day 27 - A movie that you wish you had seen in theaters - I would've loved to have seen the first preview test screenings of The Wizard of Oz. Apparently, there was a LOT of stuff that was cut from the film after the first few preview screenings because the movie was running too long. Plus, about a dozen of Margaret Hamilton's lines as the Wicked Witch were cut because she was just too scary for the kids in the audiences to handle.

Oh hell, I would just love to actually see The Wizard of Oz in a theater, no matter what. I've seen it so many times on TV and on tape/DVD, it'd be a nice change of pace to see it in an actual theater.

Day 28 - Favorite movie from your favorite director - I'll reserve that for number 30, because it's the same thing.

Day 29 - A movie from your childhood - Any random movie from my childhood? I'll go with The Muppet Movie. I know it came out in 1979, and I was born in 1980, but I think I've seen it so many times when I was a kid on tape or on TV. Love it.

Okay, Frank Oz, this alone can make up for the piece of crap that was your remake of The Stepford Wives.

Day 30 - Your favorite movie of all time -
I don't need you to tell me how fucking good my coffee is, okay? I'm the one who buys it. I know how good it is. When Bonnie goes shopping, she buys shit. I buy the gourmet expensive stuff because when I drink it I want to taste it. But you know what's on my mind right now? It AIN'T the coffee in my kitchen, it's the dead nigger in my garage. )
