I would love if they could actually execute this, and I say...why not try? Disneyland in California already brought back the subs with the Finding Nemo theme; why not bring them back for this Little Mermaid attraction that they're already dropping buku bucks on? It's allegedly going to be an E-ticket-type attraction, and they don't normally do that for dark rides. (And they're going to have to move the Dumbo ride about 100 feet for the queuing alone for this attraction.)
Also, it looks like Space Mountain will be temporarily shutting down at Walt Disney World for a major rehab/refurbishing/updating. But to do that now, especially with the economy the way it looks currently...add to that people won't be doing as much vacationing/traveling like they used to, which means a very lean fiscal year for Disney...it's either put the money into an existing attraction like Space Mountain, or just put forth all their effort into this Little Mermaid attraction. Or try to do both...
Plus, they're already moving land over at the Animal Kingdom park for a new land. ("Mysterious Island"? They're still being really mum about what's going on over there.)
And news that upsets me greatly....

This upsets me because many years ago during my first WDW vacation, I got to dance with Minnie Mouse in the "Totally Minnie" stage show at that theater. I feel that exact moment at that theater was when the urge to be on a stage bit me. 'Course, back in the day, it was still the "Tomorrowland Theatre" before the massive overhaul of Tomorrowland in the mid-90s.

Date: 2008-12-29 08:41 pm (UTC)Now that you mentioned it, Tomorrowland doesn't have a whole lot of MAJOR attractions besides the Buzz Lightyear ride and Space Mountain. There's the new Monsters Inc. attraction, but that's more of an interactive sit-down show. And there's "Stitch's Great Escape," but that's just the Alien Encounter ride (that barely anybody likes) with a Lilo and Stitch theme that I keep hearing they still have second thoughts on keeping. But for now, I think they want to give Fantasyland a bit of an overhaul, especially since there are a couple of upcoming fairy-tale animated movies coming out very soon (The Princess and the Frog in 2009 and hopefully Rapunzel will finally be done by 2010).

Date: 2008-12-29 09:37 pm (UTC)Oh wait, now I remember something from Tomorrowland. "There's a great big beautiful tomorrow, shining at the end of every day..." Ever been on that when the thing GETS STUCK IN THE 40'S AND YOU HAVE TO WATCH IT OVER AGAIN?!?! ARGH!!!!
According to my mom, that was at the World's Fair she attended in NY...in 1964. Geez, Tomorrowland is like the neglected land in the Magic Kingdom.
