....Trey Parker, have you forsaken me?!

If you're a Britney Spears fan, skip this post.
As you all know, I'm a big "South Park" fan, and when I heard that they were going to do a Britney-themed episode, I nearly wet myself with the prospect that Trey Parker and Matt Stone were going to attack "Britney-mania." It wasn't what I expected. In fact, I was sorely disappointed.
The episode has Britney taking off to South Park to "get away from LA to escape it all." That was the first big mistake because we all know that for as much as Britney says she wants to do just that, she doesn't mean it and would never leave Los Angeles. If she really wanted to "get away from it all," she would've done left to go back home to Louisiana by now. The boys decide that they want to try to see her and get a picture of her, and try to get through the throng of paparazzi for her picture. They pass themselves off as "her kids" to get special access, and it works.
Britney lets them in, thinking it's really Sean and Jayden. Nope! It's four rotten little kids who just want her picture and won't leave her alone. (Cut for a major spoiler!)She takes a shotgun and blows her head off. She miraculously survives, but with only a mere portion of her head intact. Stan and Kyle feel terrible because they think they unintentionally pushed her over the edge and just want to apologize and make it up to her. They tag along with her as her manager (not Samn Lutfi!) pushes her into the studio to record new "music." Everyone in the recording studio tells her she's hot stuff and she sounds great, but when she's out of earshot, they call her "washed up" and "a total trainwreck." She performs on the VMAs with her mangled head, and she gets maimed in the press. More important news stories keep getting sidelines with breaking "BRITNEY WATCH!" news reports (which was the only funny thing about this episode).
Stan and Kyle are frequently troubled with all of the paparazzi who just won't leave her alone, and plot to help her escape to the North Pole, and this is where it just got stupid and flat-out not funny. When they ask a paparazzo why they do what they do, he says, "You don't understand. She HAS to die. She's the sacrifice. For many years, there is one young female who is built up and idolized for us to bring down and sacrifice for the corn harvest. We used to just stone them, but we can't do THAT anymore, so now we just pester them to death with cameras."
That was just flat-out stupid. See, the paparazzo could've just told Kyle, "She's the one who calls us up and tips us off to where she is. This is our job, kid. She calls, we answer," to which Kyle could've said (in traditional "South Park" fashion), "Oh...then fuck her, she deserves whatever she gets. Stupid attention whore." But I think they couldn't do that angle because they wasted the "stupid spoiled whore" thing on Paris Hilton already. Towards the end, all of the paparazzi just closed in on Britney, snapping their cameras until she just crawled into a little ball and died in the cornfield.
What kind of message is this?! Are they saying that the paparazzi is causing Britney to act out? Yeah, they could be doing better things than wasting their time and film on that whore, but they are not contributing to her problems. I feel it's very obvious that she's the one who brings all of her problems on herself. Have we noticed a drop in stupid Britney-related shit in the last month because her dad's taking charge of her life? In short, I felt Trey and Matt were (ugh) sympathetic towards her plight, and I felt very let down.
If a paparazzo had told them that Britney tips them off, they could've ended the episode with an "I've learned something today" speech, in which they could've said, "....Just leave the dumb bitch alone. No one wants to hear about her stupid antics. No one wants to see her cooter. And even if she's tipping you off, just leave her alone. Don't you guys get it? She's got a problem! She wants attention, and she's trying to get the wrong kind of attention that makes people annoyed with her! Just...just leave her alone, dude."
