hollybrooke: (go to your room lisa)
First of all, before I start on the regularities, I have to say it.

JemCon 2007 is going to be in Chicago next year. Now THAT's outrageous! :D (I'm so there!)

First day of classes isn't so bad. I don't have my books yet, though. I'll have to buy them tomorrow. I never buy books before classes start. I've had the wonderful displeasures of buying my books, then finding out from my professors that the bookstore ordered the wrong books or that there's been a last-minute change, so I always wait till I have the syllabus in my hand. I have about a four hour gap in between Earth Sciences & Prof. Writing Skills, so I'll probably be here in the computer lab fiddling around with OnCourse & taking advantage of the high-speed internet to check my emails & stuff.

I nearly got through to be on the radio this morning. The topic was about partying in colleges. I guess there was some incident regarding Northwestern University about how they are not considered to be much of a social/party campus, & they got rid of five sororities & fraternities because of the boozing & partying being a distraction in studies. Some listener wrote a letter complaining about how "this ruins Greek life" & "Northwestern needs to loosen up" & "it's not enough that they're strict enough on us as it is, we study hard, we deserve to party hard, too" & "I wish I had went to a different school if this was the case." My response? (Had I the time to give it, but I didn't want to be late for my Philosophy class) Well, here's how I see it. And yes, it's going to be bold & in all caps because I think the person who sent the letter sounds like a whiny bitch:

Why the hell are you going to college? To study & better yourself for a career? Or to party your ass off? If the social life factors in heavily to where you go to college, then maybe you shouldn't be going to college in the first place. Just get a regular full-time job (oh, good luck with that, because I don't see too many full-time job opportunities open in the retail circuit with any line for advancement) instead of wasting your parents' money/student loan on partying. We should all be so lucky. I go to a commuter campus. Half of the population here are adults earning their degrees. There's no social life here, either, but at least we're all serious when it comes to studying to better our lot in life.

Had to get that off my chest. It really riled me up.

It's raining outside right now. And my school day doesn't end at 5:15. I have to go straight to work after this. Yesterday I went in on my day off & totally tackled the back room. It looks NICE now. Ended up throwing out a crapload of trash & stuff we just didn't need out...a lot of it heavy stuff, so today my lower back & arms & butt are in pain. And hey--it's going to look good on my paycheck. ;)
