Okay, this references so & so post from a couple of weeks back (& [livejournal.com profile] supermachodude, I know you read this stuff, so here's what's up):
http://promisemewings.livejournal.com/279777.html

And here's the news from the Truly Outrageous Yahoo group (read behind LJ cut, plzkthx):

I got word today from a friend who works at Hasbro that they have officially put Jem on hold to produce the Pussycat dolls. They say the hold could mean that the idea has been canned to reissue her or it
could mean that they are holding off for a later date. They don't know officially what the final word is on Jem yet, but they're gonna try and find out more.

They don't want to produce two lines of dolls that are so similar, for fear they might hurt the sales of one or the other and then have both get cancelled. (Holly sez: This makes sense.)

They say it takes two years to get a doll line from concept to the store shelves. So, if the Pussycat dolls flop and they decide to produce Jem we won't see her on shelves for two years. Example: Jem
started development in 1984 and didn't officially hit the shelves of stores until '86.

This is really sad news to hear. I had to do some lookin' into it when we heard the Jaxx Pacific doll rumor last week. (Holly sez: Which was totally NOT true, someone was pulling our legs.) Just wanted to find out what's going on, and now I'm kinda upset that I found out.

My friend is working on the Pussycat Dolls now, and he says that Hasbro is really putting a lot of publicity and work into the line, so it looks like we'll see a lot about them very soon.

Sorry to be the carrier of the bad news, but thought everyone would like to know.

That IS upsetting to hear. Considering the popularity of the Pussycat Dolls, I'm sure the doll line would take off well. But maybe it's me being old...but if it were up to me & I were a parent, I wouldn't want to buy a doll for my six-year-old that wears a garter belt. And yes, this sounds hypocritical of me, the girl who runs around half-nekkid at Rocky Horror on the weekends & wears a garter belt herself *ha*, but even I have values.

At least put out a special 20th anniversary edition of Jem for us old fogies. Forget trying to update the doll line...leave it as is. Or at least PUT OUT SEASON 3 PT. 2 OF THE DVDS!!!!

Now...having said that, I probably WOULD buy the Pussycat Dolls doll line. Why? Even though they're nothing but five backup dancers that try to sing along with Nicole (the only real singer of the group), I like the music. And since I don't have a six-year-old to worry about, I would buy a doll that wears a garter belt.
