Merry Christmas to one and all!
First of all, I apologize for not following up on my promise to do the entire 25 Snarks of Christmas. Things got in the way, like work and such. Plus, I've been occasionally getting this tingling feeling in the fingertips of my right hand. It doesn't really bother me all that much, but I'm a little worried that it might be a precursor to something more serious. I'm hoping it's just the beginnings of carpal tunnel syndrome, though. *note to self: check it out on WebMd*
Mom and Dad are down in Alabama. They've been down there for a couple of weeks now. They say they're taking care of some more of Grandma Cozie's business down there, but really they just wanted to escape all of their troubles up here (and the craptacular weather). Dad hasn't lifted his butt to look for a job once since he got laid off, so this is just an extended vacation for him and an excuse to do as much of his stupid hunting as he wants. He (well, Mom) says he's looking into a job on an oil rig down there, but I'm not holding my breath on that. Ya know, whatever.
They took Bo with them. So yeah, Hunter and I have been bummed because we don't have our BFF here with us. Dad told us not to get another dog (or especially a cat), but Hunter's been so pissed with Dad and this whole situation lately (mainly for pushing him into all of this legal stuff after the car accident) that I don't think he cares one bit what Dad thinks or does anymore. (I won't go into details.)
The weather has been sucking balls. We've been getting all sorts of either snow or rain or freezing rain or sleet or ice storms lately. Sunday on the way to work this week, I ended up fishtailing and going into a ditch on Parrish Avenue. I was fine, the car was fine, but I ended up calling Uncle Troy to help get me out. Ended up being about fifteen minutes late to work. I'm sure I'll get a write-up for that (last Sunday, I was a half hour late because I thought I was supposed to be at work at 9:30 AM when I was scheduled at nine anyway), but oh well. Shit happens, and you end up being late.
Work's been....well, busy and stupid. Allll sorts of stupid. I'm ready to write a book about all of my memoirs of working there at this point. My manager was getting on my case because I haven't been pulling in as much money with the NW Indiana Food Bank donations as I was last year (especially since I was first place last year). The thing is, I've been asking. It's just a lot of customers have been telling me no. And not just that....a lot of the customers are being really shitty about it, too. I'm done asking, to be quite honest. I'm getting tired of receiving attitude from customers because God forbid I ask them if they want to donate a dollar to help feed needy families: "I already donated/I donate privately/I donate to my church/God, I've been bombarded with all you cashiers asking to donate here and there/All of these groceries are going to help the food pantry anyway." I don't really want an excuse; a simple "no" or "no thank you" is fine. And there's no need to get shitty about it, either.
Christmas was kind of lame this year. I tried getting into the spirit, but work's been driving me nuts. Mom and Dad taking off with the dog brought me down plenty. Kevin came over last night. We had a very last-minute Christmas dinner from the SVT deli, watched "Family Guy: Something Something Something Dark Side," and exchanged presents. He got me a nice pair of earrings. :) I got him a shirt and a couple of DVDs. And since the weather was so crappy last night, he stayed the night because I didn't want him driving in all of that. Hunter and I went to Gramma Julie's for Christmas today; I got $25 cash from Gramma, and Troy and Diane gave me the wonderful Speedway gas card that I look forward to every year. (I'm not even lying about that. Gas money is one of the BEST things I can get for Christmas. Shoot me; I like getting practical stuff.) But Troy came with TJ and Sandy, no Diane. I wasn't surprised. Sandy was absorbed in her cell phone, as usual. (Put it down for five freaking minutes and engage in stuff with the rest of the family. She's lucky we even include her, even though she's not Troy's kid.) After they left, Hunter and I stayed with Gramma Julie for a while. Then Jess came and visited with us and we exchanged more presents. Then we came home, and that's been about it. Nothing to really write to Mom about or whatever. Just....blah.
Hunter's made the decision that after the spring semester, he's transferring to the main Purdue campus in Lafayette, and I fully encourage this. He's getting tired of dealing with Dad. Me--I'm trying to save up my money so I can go finish up school and move the hell out.
And that was the last two weeks! God bless us everyone!
